Labyrinth Workshop March 29th

Posted in Steinbach United

At the evening workshop we will hear a little of the history of the labyrinth, and look at different ways in which we might prepare ourselves to walk with intention. This workshop will be led by Barbara Barnett, Veriditas- Certified Labyrinth Facilitator, and retired hospital chaplain.

Walking the labyrinth is a way of quieting the mind.  There is no right or wrong way to walk, since it is an activity that is a reflection of your own spiritual journey in life.  Some people walk with the intention to address an issue in their lives, others to pray and meditate.  Others want to place in the heart of the divine problem, a fear, a person.   You may want simply to walk with an open and receptive mind.  The experience is different for each person, each time.

This workshop is most appropriate for teenagers and adults.  More information at OpenCircle-labyrinth

What is a Remit?

Posted in Steinbach United

A remit is one part of a decision making process for the United Church of Canada. When the UCC wants to make a change to the Basis of Union (the church constitution) they must consult the wider church. If a majority of the presbyteries and congregations vote in favour of a motion, then it goes back to the General Council for one last vote.  The remit is the motion that is being proposed.

Remit 6 is the current remit that we are asked to consider. It has been sent out to all congregations and presbyteries to “test the will of the church” regarding the doctrines or beliefs of the United Church of Canada.   Read more at  United Church of Canada Remit 6
