Last fall Steinbach Neighbours for Community brought the production called Listening for Grace by Ted & Co to Steinbach. Listening for Grace was a theatrical production presenting the thoughts and concerns of a father who learned that his son was gay. Our intention was to encourage conversations, starting in a safe neutral space, for respectful dialogue on the topic of sexual orientation.  This year  the conversation is continuing with a  with a local production.

Still Listening… Voices Among Us is a collection of stories from people living right here in our communities in Southeastern Manitoba. The stories represent a wide range of people who are part of the LGBTTQI* community. Some of the stories come from LGBTTQI* people, some from family, friends and allies of LGBTTQI*. Each story is a story from the heart, lived by each person who was willing to share their journeys.  Neighbours for Community understands that human sexuality is a complex topic and few people are comfortable talking about it, but as one of the participants said “doing nothing out of fear doesn’t change anything”.

Still Listening… Voices Among Us is written and directed by Val Hiebert, Associate Professor at Providence University with music directed by Millie Hildebrand.

“They were equally strong forces – wanting to live – wanting to die. I felt alone in the world.”     from Still Listening… Voices Among Us
