Funeral Guidelines

Important Funeral Information

“In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.

We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.”

excerpt from A New Creed, The United Church of Canada –

As the congregation at Steinbach United Church, we consider it part of our ministry of pastoral care and outreach to support you as you mourn the loss of your loved one.  Our minister and our pastoral care team are available to walk with you through this difficult time.

Our sanctuary and other facilities are also available for funeral services.  To assist you in your planning, we offer the following options:

Use of the sanctuary for the funeral

The sanctuary seats 150.  The Christian Education Building (C.E. Building) and basement are available, complete with sound, for possible overflow. Both the CE Building and the sanctuary are wheelchair accessible with wheelchair accessible washrooms.

Musician (piano or organ) for the service

We will provide a musician for the service.  You may also choose to make arrangements for your own musician.

Ushers

It is preferable to have ushers who know the family to seat people at the funeral.  If this is not possible, we would be pleased to provide ushers.

Sound system with operator

We prefer to have our own trained people operate our sound system and will provide an operator.  We have a variety of microphones available to meet your needs.

Power Point projector with operator

If you wish to have a slide show of photographs before or during the service, the family will need to prepare it themselves.  We do not prepare slideshows but are more than willing to show them along with any other material that the family has prepared for Power Point.

Luncheon following the service

The C.E. Building is available for a luncheon following the funeral service.  It has a  seating capacity of 150 and is wheelchair accessible.  We provide the set-up of tables and chairs.  Any additional decorating (e.g. centrepieces or memorabilia) is to be provided by the family, if desired.  On request, the minister will provide you with the names of people in the congregation with whom you may arrange to have a lunch prepared.  You may also choose to bring in a catered lunch.  All costs associated with the lunch will be the responsibility of the family.

In the case of a funeral that is being held in another facility such as a funeral chapel or another church, arrangements and costs for that facility are to be handled by the family. Our minister will consult with the management of that facility and the ministry personnel, regarding protocol.

Because we consider our support for your family to be part of our ministry, there are no fees charged for any part of our funeral services.  If you wish to do so, a donation to support the life and ministry of Steinbach United Church would be gratefully accepted.
