Wedding Guidelines

“God is with us.  We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.”

-excerpt from A New Creed, The United Church of Canada –

Marriage is a covenant between two individuals (of any race, sexual orientation, social economic status, ability, previous marital or sexual relationship status, faith background, or gender), with promises made to each other before God and the congregation as part of a service of worship.  Your decision to have your wedding at Steinbach United Church indicates your desire to celebrate your marriage in a community of faith. As a congregation, we welcome you and celebrate with you! We also offer the opportunity for your faith journey to continue if you wish to become a part of the life and ministry of this congregation.

The first step in planning your covenanted marriage is to arrange a meeting with the minister.   At this meeting, you will be able to share information about yourselves and your wish to be married at Steinbach United Church.  Additional details such as your preferred date and time for the wedding, the type of wedding you would like and other arrangements will be clarified.  A marriage preparation course is highly recommended and the minister will give you information about the options available.  This will be the first of several meetings prior to your wedding.  At subsequent meetings, you will discuss your preferences for the wedding service, including the vows you wish to use, the music, etc.  A wedding rehearsal is also recommended and will be arranged according to the availability of the minister and the sanctuary.

Use of the Facilities

To insure that the minister and the sanctuary are available for the date and time you prefer, please reserve as soon as possible. Reservations can made through either the office administrator or the minister. You will be given a copy of our congregation’s “Facility Use Policy”.  It will answer many of your questions about the use of our facilities.  If you wish to use the

Christian Education Building and the kitchen for a reception, reservations are made through the office administrator, who will inform you of the costs involved.

Both the sanctuary and the CE building are wheelchair accessible with wheelchair accessible washrooms.

Please keep in mind that we ask that you and your guests do not use confetti or rice within the church building.  We also ask that only one official photographer take pictures during your wedding service.  That one photographer is welcome to move around the sanctuary as needed

A fee will be charged for weddings.  The following services are available, if required, and are included in the fee:

  • The use of the sanctuary
  • The services of the minister
  • The services of a pianist if available
  • The sound system and an operator
  • The PowerPoint system and an operator
  • The services of the custodian

The wedding fee may either:

  • be paid in full by cheque upon reserving, or
  • be paid half in cheque upon reserving and the remaining half in cash on the night of the rehearsal.

Cheques should be payable to “Steinbach United Church”.
