In Scripture we look at 1 Kings 19:1-15a – a part of Elijah’s story
God is in the small voice of stillness…
Today we hear the voices of some who have power who speak with such arrogance, who claim to be an authority in everything, who refuse to ever admit to being wrong, who never display any remorse, who threaten and bully and boast and intimidate… and it can seem that the world belongs to those who present themselves as the strongest and most threatening. Like Elijah, we might wish God would send fire from the sky, would come in wind and earthquake and fire and destroy and dethrone those in power…
And then God leads us back to the stories of God’s presence; for Christians, invites us to remember the life of Jesus, of God embodied in Jesus and experienced by those who encountered Jesus…
