The words: “Abide with us” sound very hospitable, which they are, but are much more than that. They extended the invitation to Jesus, so he could join them for the night, or dark period of the day. In life, we need to recognize the times when we need to invite Jesus into our journeys. Life is a journey, and sometimes it feels dark, lonely and insecure. Yet in those moments, the mystery of God is revealed. In our kindness, we may experience God’s providence more than we intend. It is serving others that God serves us. Sometimes we just need to offer the basic and god does the rest.
