Today we are reflecting on 100 years of the United Church of Canada. We officially became a denomination on June 10th, 1925. The inaugural service was held at Mutual Street Arena in Toronto, Ontario with over 7000 people in attendance. What a day that would have been! And what a century this has been!
Over the past hundred years, the United Church has:
-
Played a leading role in social justice, reconciliation, and inclusion.
-
Spoken courageously on issues of peace, gender equality, Indigenous rights, and environmental stewardship.
-
Continued to evolve in faith and practice, seeking to live out Christ’s call to love and justice in an ever-changing world.
A centennial is not just a celebration of the past — it’s also a moment to look forward with renewed purpose.
